Pattern review and update 19-02-2020

I don’t have to many scarfs or shawls designs, but I decided to give to this Jeanie Triangle Scarf a refresh, because it has a beautiful stitch pattern and because is that kind of accessory that you are making to be worn for good.

Imagine that I made this Jeanie Triangle scarf, almost 2 years ago, and all the photos in this post update are made recently. This scarf was worn and washed so many times in this 2 years and I am really happy that it’s still gorgeous and it’s looking like it was finished yesterday.

I have to mention that the main pattern of this Jeanie Triangle Scarf is the same. I only added a few more information about supplies, measurements, gauge which I didn’t mentioned in previous version.

I learned so many thinks in these 2 years, about how important is to know how to promote and put in value the things you’ve made. Back then I did’t paid to much attention on how I was taking photos with my makes and didn’t realized that this is one of the most important thing in this job.

It doesn’t matter that you make amazing staff, if you don’t know how to show them to people.

Because this is a great pattern and a great scarf that deserves to be made in many others versions of colors, I decided to bring it back to life with this pattern update.

Even I, started to make another one, using some amazing yarn that I had in my stash for so long.

This yarn is from Lana Grossa, Goia, and I love the colors.

Materials you will need

Yarn
- Category 2, Fingering weigh Yarn
Crochet hook
- 4 mm crochet hook (US G size)
You will hide the ends

Pattern notes

The Jeanie Triangle Scarf is an easy to make accessory. To obtain the triangle shape we will increase at the beginning, in middle and at the end of the row.

Chain 3 at the beginning of the row, counts as first double crochet.

Ch 1, at the beginning of a single crochet row, doesn’t count as first single crochet.

The pattern is one size and you can make a bigger or smaller scarf just by working more or less rows.

Final measurements of the scarf are listed below:

How much yarn do you need?

For this pattern I used 1 skein of Katia Saigon in color Jeans and 1 skein of Go Homemade Tencel Bamboo in color Walnut from Hobbii.

You can use any type of yarn you want for this pattern, even a different weight. Just follow the pattern and when you get to the desired measurements of the scarf, you are done.

About the stitch pattern.

We are using for this Jeanie Triangle Scarf the stitch pattern known as “crosses and zeros”.

This pattern is 3 rows repeat: 1 row in window stitch, 1 row in double crochet cross stitches and 1 in single crochet.

Windows Stitch Pattern: 1 double crochet, chain 1, skip 1

Cross stitch Pattern: In this pattern the double crochet cross stitches pattern is made always after a window row.

1 dc in next window, 1 dc in previous window. In each window (ch 1 space of the previous window row) you will have 2 dc’s.

Gauge

After 2 patterns repeats, 7 rows, the triangle measures 18 cm width and 9 cm length.

Pattern

R1: Ch 6, sl st to make a circle, ch 1, 7 sc inside circle. Ch 3 and turn

R2: 1 dc in the first st ( the same st with ch 3), ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in the next st, [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in the next st – the center point of our triangle, 1 dc in the next, ch 1, skip 1, 2 dc in the last st. Ch 3 and turn.

R3: 1 dc in the first st, skip the next dc, 1 dc in the next ch 1 space, 1 dc in the skipped dc, 1 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the previous ch 1 space, skip next dc, 1 dc in the next (the last before center point), 1 dc in the skipped dc, [2 dc, ch 2, 2dc] in the ch 2 space of the center point.

Skip next dc (the first after center point), 1 dc in the next, 1 dc in the skipped dc, skip the next dc, 1 dc in the next ch 1 space, 1 dc in the skipped dc, 1 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the previous ch 1 space, 2 dc in the 3rd st of the turning ch. Ch 1 and turn.

R4: 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in each st to the center point, [2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc] in the ch 2 space of the center point, 1 sc in each st to the end of the row, ending with 2 sc in the 3rd st of the turning chain.

R5: 1 dc in the first st, [ch 1, skip 1, 1 dc in the next st] repeat until the center point. [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in ch 2 space, [1 dc, ch 1, skip 1] repeat section to the end of the row, ending with 2 dc in the 3rd st of the turning chain. Ch 3 and turn

R6: 1 dc in the first st, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in the next ch 1 space, 1 dc in the skipped dc.

[1 dc in the next ch 1 space, 1 dc in the previous ch 1 space] repeat this section until you have 3 dc to the center point.

Then continue with 1 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the previous ch 1 space, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next, 1 dc in the skipped dc. Continue with center point [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in the ch 2 space of the center point.

Skip next dc, 1 dc in next, 1 dc in the skipped dc, skip next dc, 1 dc in the next ch 1 space, 1 dc in the skipped dc, [1 dc in the next ch 1 space, 1 dc in the previous 1 ch space] repeat this section until you have 1 dc left. Continue with 1 dc in the last dc, 1 dc in the previous ch 1 space. Finish the row with 2 dc in the 3^rd stitch of the turning ch.

Next, repeat rows 4 to 6 until you have in total 43 rows, or until you get to the desired width and length of the scarf.

Edging

From where your yarn is, continue on the width of the scarf to make a single crochet edge. When working into the side rows, make 2 sc in each dc row (crosses or windows) and 1 sc in each sc side row. Continue with 1 sc in each st to the center point. In the center point make the same increase as you did on each single crochet row and then continue with 1 sc in each st until you get to the end of the round.

Fringe

Cut 4 strands of yarn of about 20 cm, fold them in half, insert the loop through ch 2 space of the center point, pull the ends through the loop and tie. Repeat and add fringe at every 5 sts until you complete the entire edge of the scarf.

To finish

Wave in all ends and block to measurements.

Easy Knitted Cowl

This Easy Knitted Cowl is the second pattern within the project “Crochet and Knit for beginners” and I am super happy with it, because it is actually my first written knit pattern.

It’s funny how after 3 years I am finally publishing my first knitted pattern. You know why? Because I learned to knit before crochet and in my childhood I was more into knitting then into crochet. Maybe I was influenced by my Granny who was knitting all winter long. Anyways…the reason why I didn’t published a pattern until now, it’s because I am a faster crocheter then knitter and it was easier to finish one crochet project then a knitted one. But this year I promise my self to do both.

Before I will start talking about this Easy Knitted Cowl Pattern, I just want to highlight that I am opened for any of your suggestions on what to make for this section of my blog. So if you have any ideas and you will like to learn something, feel free to comment bellow.

Materials you will need

Yarn
- Category 3, DK (the cowl it’s worked holding 2 strands of yarn at ones)
Needles

8 mm circular knit needles, 80 cm length

yarn needle to hide the ends
Scissors
1 stitch marker
6 mm crochet hook to fasten off

Pattern notes

This Cowl features working in continuous rounds, knit stitch and purl stitch

It’s worked only on the right side.

Final measurements

70 cm circumference and approximate 30 cm high

How much yarn do you need?

This Cowl it’s the perfect project if you have some left-over yarn, because you will need only half skein of each color. (1 skein 100 grams and 300 m)

I used for this Easy Knitted Cowl, Scheepjes Color Crafter in color Black and Light Grey, but you can use any other DK, light weight yarn in contrasting colors to obtain this marble effect.

About the stitch pattern.

To make this easy cowl you need to know how to purl and how to knit.

k: Knit

k st (knit stitch)– With yarn at back, insert point of right-hand needle in front of stitch from left to right on left-hand needle, bring yarn under and over the top of point of right needle, draw loop through stitch and drop this stitch off left needle.

p: Purl

p st (purl stitch) – With yarn at front, insert point of right hand needle in front of stitch from right to left on left needle, bring yarn over and under the top of point of right needle, draw loop through stitch and drop this stitch off left needle.

Abbreviations used in this pattern

K – knit
P – purl
St(s) – stitch (es)

Gauge

12 k st = 10 cm (4”)
16 k rows = 10 cm (4 “)

IF you can’t get to the same gauge, make a swatch to see how many k st you have in 10 cm, then multiply the number of stitches by 7 to see how many sts you need to cast on.

Pattern

Cast on 80 sts.

Before making the join make sure the sts are oriented inside the circle and your yarn is on your right needle.

Join

With the right needle take the first stitch from the left needle. Then, pull out the second st from the right needle. Let this st between you needles. This will be the join.

Use a stitch marker and put it on your right needle, to mark the beginning of the round.

Round 1: k all the sts around.

Round 2: p all the sts around

Rounds 3 – 6: Repeat rounds 1 and 2 (alternate 1 k round with 1 p round)

Rounds 7 – 47: k all sts around

Rounds 48 – 53 : alternate 1 p round with 1 k round

Fasten off

Use a 6 mm crochet hook as your right needle.

P first st, you have now 1 loop on your hook.

P next st, and pull the loop through the first loop on your hook. Repeat with all sts. Make sure you you have only one loop on your hook after each p st. At the end of the round insert the hook st and make a slip st. Chain 1 and cut the yarn.

Fall Colors Dress

Fall Colors Dress is a new crocheted garment that I will wear it with pleasure.

The idea of this Fall Colors Dress, came to me while I was working on the Bat Wings Sweater.

I loved the shape and how easy is to make it. So, I was thinking that, maybe, this season we will see a lot of sweaters and I wanted something else.

About the design

The design of the Fall Colors Dress is very simple.

First we will work the top part, which is the same design and the same pattern as for the Bat Wings Sweater.

Then, after finishing the top part, we will start the skirt, working in rounds, starting at the bottom of the top part.

So basically we will do a sweater and then add the skirt.

Pretty simple, isn’t’ it?

Now, about the materials I used and some suggestions.

I used Scheepjes Whirlette, which is a 4 ply, fingering yarn. But, since I wanted to obtain a beautiful degrade, I worked with 2 strands of yarn.

Working with 2 strands of yarn, I obtain approximately the same weight as a DK, Worsted Yarn. That means that you will have a lot of option to make this Fall Colors Dress.

I worked with a 5 mm (H US Size) crochet hook.

You will also need 2 stitch markers, Scissors and a tapestry needle.

About the amount of yarn you will need.

You will need in total :

Size S – 1620 m / 1770 yds

M – 1760 m / 1920 yds

L – 1900 m / 2079 yds

XL – 2000 m / 2180 yds

XXL – 2130 m / 2320 yds

I calculated the yarn taking in consideration 2 strand of yarn. So basically I bought twice more yarn than the length listed above.

To be more specific, for size S, I used 2.5 spheres of Scheepjes Whirlette Chocolate, 2 in color Banan, 1.6 in color Mango and 1 in color Mint.

How I used the colors

I started with 2 strands in color Chocolate, then when I finished the number of rows with this color, I cut 1 strand of chocolate and joined one strand of Mango.

Then I added Banan, working with one strand of mango, one of banan, and the last color was with one strand of Banan, one strand of Mint. So I had in total 4 colors ( obtained with 2 strands of yarn)

I divided the total number of rows by 4 ( the number of shades) and the result was the number of rows worked with each shade.

But feel free to choose your colors as you wish.

So, the pattern is available for sizes from S to XXL and is wrote in US (continental terms).

As I said we will start with the top part, which is the same pattern as for the Bat Wings Sweater.

Abbreviations used in this pattern

Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Hdc – half double crochet
Dc – double crochet
FPDc – Front post double crochet
BPDc – Back Post double crochet
St (s) – stitch (es)
Inc – increase ( 2 hdc in the same st)
Dec – decrease ( sc2tog – 2 single crochet worked together)

Gauge

15 hdc = 10 cm (4″)

11 rows = 10 cm (4″)

The Final measurement of the top part are listed in the diagram bellow. The skirt will have the circumference of the bottom of the sweater and in length is up to you, depending on how long or short you want the Fall Colors Dress to be.

Make the foundation chain (you can also start with a foundation double crochet if you want)

S – 76 sts
M – 90
L – 105
XL – 120
XXL – 135

the top part of the Fall Colors Dress is oversized, so it should fit bigger hips, but if you know that you have bigger hips, measure your hips circumference, divide the length in half, add a couple of inches ( 5 cm) and this will be the starting length.

Row 1

1 Hdc in each st to the end of the row. Ch 2 and turn.

For size S, repeat this row 4 more times (5 rows in total)

M – repeat row 1, 6 more times ( 7 rows)

L, XL, XXL – repeat row 1, 7 more times (8 rows)

Row 6 (8, 9,9,9)

1 inc in the first st (2 hdc in the first st), 1 hdc in each stitch to the last one, 1 inc in the last st. Ch 2 and turn.

Rows 7 – 44 (9 – 44, 10 – 44, 10 – 44, 10 – 44)

I worked with each color 14 rows.

Repeat row 6 (8, 9,9,9)

After 44 rows you will have:

S – 154 sts

M – 164

L – 177

XL – 192

XXL – 207

Starting with the next row we will continue working straight without increasing:

S – 11 rows
M – 13
L – 14
XL – 15
XXL – 16

Now it’s time to let a space for the neck. On this step you will need 2 stitch markers or 2 strand of a different color yarn.

For the neck we will mark in the middle:

S – 36 sts ( 59 sts left on each side)
M – 38 sts ( 63 sts left on each side)
L – 41 sts ( 68 sts left on each side)
XL – 44 sts (74 sts left on each side)
XXL – 47 sts ( 80 sts left on each side)

Row 56 (56, 58, 59, 60)

1 hdc in each sts to the first stitch marker ( make 1 hdc in the stitch marked too), ch 36 (38, 41, 44, 47), 1 hdc in the second marked stitch and 1 hdc in each stitch to the end of the row.

After this row we will start to work the back side of the top part of the Fall Colors Dress.

Basically we will repeat the pattern for the front side but in mirror.

So, we will continue to work the same number of straight rows as we did for the front side, before the neck opening.

S – 11 rows

M – 13 rows

L – 14 rows

XL – 15 rows

XXL – 16 rows.

Now to obtain the same shape as for the front side we will start, beginning with the next row, decreasing with 1 st at every beginning and end of the row.

We will do the decrease by making sc2tog in the first 2 sts and in the last 2.

We will work like this:

S – 39 rows

M – 37

L – 36

XL – 36

XXL – 36

Now we have the same width as we started and of course the same number of stitches.

We will continue with straight rows, without decreasing:

S – 5 row

M – 7 rows

L – 8 rows

XL – 8 rows

XXL – 8 rows.

And the top part of the Fall Colors Dress is done. Fold it in half and sew the edges.

Skirt

Start in one side of the bottom of the top part. We will work the skirt in half double crochet, but working in rounds this time.

Round 1

Ch 1, 1 hdc in the same st. 1 hdc in each stitch of the bottom of the top part. Sl st with the first hdc.

Repeat round 1 for as many rounds as you want, until you have the desired length.

I made 12 rounds with 2 strands in Chocolate color and then 10 rounds with each of the next color.

After finishing you will have to make one cord for the waist. I made 1 chain off 180 sts and then 1 sl st in each st to the end. Make it as long as you need.

Then with a yarn needle insert the cord trough the sts in the middle of the dress. Aa…..nd done.
