Spring Buds Cropped Cardigan is the first crochet garment that I made using Home dyed yarn and I am so happy with the end result. The colors are so fresh and perfect for the Spring.

For me as a Crochet Designer this is what  happens all the time: first I am a yarn addict and with every project, first came the yarn and then the project it self.

With the Spring Buds Cropped Cardigan was the same. At first the only thing I had in mind is that I have to try some dyed yarn, so I ordered the yarn. Then, just playing with it, trying different stitches and ending with a piece of crocheted garment that I hope you will all love.

About Design

This Spring Buds Cropped Cardigan is a top – down cardigan, worked with the Raglan technique. We will first work the yoke and then separate the sleeves from the body of the cardigan and work the 3 parts individually. It has shorter sleeves and waist length, but the length of the cardigan and of the sleeves can easily be adjust.

Materials You will need

  • yarn

I used Dyed Yarn from Undercover Otter in color Green Place. It is a 4 ply yarn, fingering, super fine (size 2) yarn which is my favorite category of yarn to work with. So for this Spring Buds Cropped Cardigan you can use any type of yarn which has the same weight.

About the stitch pattern used:

The stitch I choose for this pattern is actually an error of the Summer Pop Corn Stitch . I just made the stitch from memory and after I finished the Spring Buds Cropped Cardigan, I realize that I didn’t made the stitch as it should. So, I don’t have a name for this stitch, but Iove it.

The stitch pattern is just 2 rows repeat. We will alternate one row with V stitch and one row with bobbles (5 double crochet clusters). Between the stitches we will have 3 chains.

Special Stitches

V stitch – 1 double crochet, ch 1, 1 double crochet in the same stitch

Bobble – 5 dc cluster (5 partial double crochet made in the same stitch) – [yarn over, insert the hook, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull the yarn trough 2 loops ] repeat 5 times. yarn over and pull the yarn trough all the loops on your hook.

Puff stitch : used for the foundation – 2 hdc cluster ( [yarn over, insert the hook, pull out a loop] 2 times. yarn over and pull the yarn through all loops on your hook.

Bellow you will find the stitch chart with the first 3 rows of the yoke. Rows 2 and 3 are the rows that will be repeated to the end of the yoke.

After finishing the body, add 2 rows in single crochet as a border, on the bottom, on the front panels edges and the collar, working the rounds circular. Where you have a ch 3, make only 1 sc.
