So many times I wished to skip the foundation chain step on my projects. I hate doing that and I’m so glad and happy with this trick: foundation single crochet (or other stitch foundation depending what stitch you need for your project).
It happened to me at the beginning and still happens some time now too: to find out that my chain is to short or to long then I need.
Until now, I used to frog the first row and then adjust the chain and start again. But this can be annoying if you work with a lot of stitches or it happens second time too.
So here I am with a little trick on how you can adjust your foundation chain without frogging the first row.
First, let’s say that after first row we find out that the chain is too long:
– untie the slip knot end the extra stitches and pull the yarn and that is it: a perfect first row.
If the chain is to short, insert the hook into the slip knot and with the end of the yarn, left over at the beginning of the chain start making your extra stitches. That is it: you fixed the issue without frogging the first row.
Bellow you will find a shirt video with how you can do this trick.

And here we are in 2018. I have a lot of expectations from this year and a lot of projects that can wait to start, to finish and to share with you.
I begin 2018 with a sweater so easy to make and which I hope will convince you to make it and to start crocheting if you don’t crochet yet, because is so fun. Is simple but also eyes caching and I love it.
For a 10 cm/4 in square I had 16 stitches and 16 rows in single crochet decrease stitch.
The final measurements for this sweater are:
So let’s begin
Back side
Foundation chain
XS – 72 stitches
S – 80 stitches
M – 88 stitches
L – 96 stitches
XL – 104 stitches
Plus 2 stitches more.
Row 1
Beginning with the 3rd stitch from the hook, make the single crochet decrease stitch: 2 single crochet together, chain 1. And repeat to the and of the row. The written instruction and video tutorial with this stitch here
Repeat the row 1 to the armpit
XS – 46 rows
S – 50 rows
M – 54 rows
L – 56 rows
XL – 60 rows
If you want your sweater to be longer just make more rows.
Row 46 (50, 54, 56, 60)
At the end of this row we will make the sleeve
After finishing the row chain extra stitches for the sleeve
XS – 32 stitches
S – 32 stitches
M – 36 stitches
L – 38 stitches
XL – 40 stitches
If you want your sleeve to be longer, chain more stitches
After chaining turn your work
Row 47 (51, 55, 57, 61)
Beginning with the 3rd stitch from the hook make the single crochet decrease stitch to the end of the row. At the end of the row chain the extra stitches for the other sleeve and turn
Row 48 (52, 56, 58, 62)
Single crochet decrease stitch to the end of the row. From now on we will continue making the back side with the sleeve too.
Row 49-72 (53-77, 57-83, 59-87, 63-94)
Repeat the row 48 (52, 56, 58, 62).
Fasten up.
For the front side follow the same pattern.
After finishing the both parts time to assembling.
Sew on shoulders
XS- 53 stitches on each side
S – 57 stitches
M – 62 stitches
L – 66 stitches
XL – 70 stitches
If you want your neck line to be bigger or smaller adjust the number of stitches that you sew.
