Diamonds Puff Beanie

Since we are at the beginning of the fall is the perfect time for beanies and this Diamonds Puff Beanie is perfect for this season and the one about to come.

You will see that the pattern is very easy and after a few rounds you will figure it out how to change colors to make the diamonds.

You will have to work with 2 colors at once, but don’t be afraid of it because is not that hard.

About the design

The Diamonds Puff Beanie is worked in rounds, using the puff stitch.

It’s worked from the bottom to the top, starting with an elastic band.

At the end we will close the diamonds puff beanie with some decreasing, working some rounds in single crochet.

The pattern is available for sizes from Baby to Adult, women and men and is wrote in US Terms.

About the yarn you can use:

I uses Tivoli by Hobbii. Is a 100% Acrylic yarn. Is a 8 ply, DK yarn, so you can find a lot of other options.

The hook size is 4 mm (G – 6).

For all sizes will be enough one skein of 50 grams, 175 m, 191 yds of each color. Actually for the diamonds if you have one less then a half skein it will be just enough.

About the puff stitch

The puff stitch is a stitch in the cluster stitches category. Meaning that we will do a group of stitches to obtain the puff look.

[Yarn over, insert the hook trough the stitch, yarn over pull out a loop] repeat 3 times. Then yarn over and pull the yarn trough all loops on your hook.

This is the stitch chart and you can see also the color pattern.

Gauge

10 rows in single crochet back loop only = 10 cm (4″)

8 rounds in puff stitch = 10 cm (4″)

Because every of you, will choose the color combination that you want, we will name the main color, A, and the diamonds color, color B.

And we are ready to start this cute Diamonds Puff Beanie

First we will do the elastic band, working single crochet, only in the back loop.

Depending on how high do you want the band to be chain the number of sts that you need.

I chained 10+1 for the toddler size and 6+1 for the adult women size.

Band Row 1

With color A

1 sc in each chain st. Ch 1 and turn

Band Row 2

1 sc blo in each st. Ch 1 and turn

Repeat round 2 until you have in total:

You will need a multiple of 8 rounds.

Baby – 48 rounds

Toddler – 56

Child – 64

Adult women – 72

Adult men – 80

After finishing the number of rows that you need, make 1 sl st in each st to join the ends of the band.

Round 1 Beanie

Also with the main color

Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each stitch around. ( 1 st is one row of the band).

Round 2

With color A

Ch 1, 1 puff in the same st [ch1, skip 1, 1 puff in next] repeat to the end of the round. Finish the round with 1 puff st in the st before the last one, ch 1, skip the last stitch and join with the 1st puff.

For the Baby and toddler size we will do with color A only one round.

For the other sizes:

Child – 2 rounds

Women – 3 rounds

Men – 4 rounds

When we will start the next puff st round, we will make 1 sc in the next ch 1 space, then in the same space the 1st puff.

The next 9 rounds are the same for all sizes, only that we will work more sts.

When you have to change color, the ch1 after 1 puff is made in the next color.

Round 3 (3, 4, 5, 6)

1 s in the 1st ch 1 space, 1 puff with color B in the same space,[ ch 1 with color A, 1 puff with color A in the next 3 ch 1 spaces. Ch 1 with color B, 1 puff with color B in the next space].

Repeat the section between [ ] to the end of the round, alternating 3 puffs with color a, one with color B to the end of the round.

The round will end with 3 puffs in color A, ch 1 with color B and sl st with the 1st puff.

As you can see we will work with both colors in the same time. The color you are not working with stays in the back of your work.

And this was the last round. Now cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Take a needle and insert the yarn and then with the needle pull the yarn trough all stitches and pull to close the diamonds puff beanie.

Add a fur pom pom or make one with yarn and this was it.
