Unwind Sweater Crochet Pattern | Oversized Textured Drop-Shoulder Pullover | Sizes XS–5XL

Description

Meet the Unwind Sweater—a relaxed, oversized crochet pullover with a beautifully textured ribbed appearance and a modern modified drop-shoulder construction.

With its softly sloped shoulders, comfortable wide body and simple straight sleeves, Unwind is designed as an easy-to-wear everyday sweater. The alternating double-crochet and post-stitch pattern creates distinctive vertical texture across the body and sleeves, while the dense slip-stitch ribbing gives the neckline, cuffs and hem a polished finish.

Part of the Slow Season Collection, this design combines straightforward crochet stitches with thoughtful shaping to create a comfortable sweater that sits naturally around the shoulders and upper body.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

The Unwind Sweater is worked flat in separate back and front sections.

The Back Panel begins at the neckline and gradually increases toward the full bust width. The increases create a gentle shoulder slope and establish the shoulder lines.

The two front shoulders are picked up directly from the sloped edges of the Back Panel. They are worked separately to shape the front neckline and then joined to complete the Front Panel. This construction eliminates the need to sew separate shoulder seams.

The sleeves are crocheted flat directly into the armhole openings. Once both sleeves are complete, the sweater is assembled with one continuous seam from each cuff to the underarm and down the side of the body.

The neckline, bottom hem and cuffs are finished with perpendicular ribbing that alternates slip-stitch and double-slip-stitch rows.

The neckline width, body length, sleeve length and ribbing width can be adjusted.

The size S sample is worn on an 86 cm bust with approximately 24 cm of positive ease. Choose a size according to your actual bust circumference, then check the finished sweater, neckline and sleeve measurements for your preferred fit.

The shorter sleeve lengths in the larger sizes account for the wider body and more pronounced dropped shoulder.

YARN AND YARDAGE

Suggested yarn: DROPS Air, colour 33 Sand Rose.

65% alpaca, 28% polyamide and 7% wool.

50 g = approximately 150 m / 164 yd.

Approximate quantities for XS (S, M, L, XL) (2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL):

• Grams: 500 (500, 550, 600, 650) (750, 800, 900, 950) g.
• Metres: 1,500 (1,500, 1,650, 1,800, 1,950) (2,250, 2,400, 2,700, 2,850) m.
• Yards: 1,640 (1,640, 1,805, 1,970, 2,135) (2,460, 2,625, 2,955, 3,120) yd.
• 50 g skeins: 10 (10, 11, 12, 13) (15, 16, 18, 19).

The size S sample used approximately 460 g / 1,380 m / 1,510 yd.

Recommended quantities include approximately 10% additional yarn where possible and are rounded up to complete 50 g skeins. Individual yarn usage may vary depending on gauge, crocheting tension and any modifications made to the pattern.

For the closest result, choose a lightweight, airy blown yarn in a medium/Aran weight with approximately 130–150 m per 50 g. Purchase substitute yarn according to the total metres or yards required rather than the number of skeins.

HOOKS AND NOTIONS

• 6 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
• 5.5 mm crochet hook for the ribbing.
• Stitch markers.
• Yarn needle.
• Scissors.

GAUGE AFTER BLOCKING

Using a 6 mm crochet hook in the established ribbed stitch pattern:

13 sts and 9 rows = 10 cm / 4 in.

Always make and block a gauge swatch before beginning the sweater.
