jolie cardigan

Is an easy cocoon cardigan, made from only one piece and then we add the sleeves and the collar.

Actually the sleeves and collar are not mandatory, the cardigan can be wear without them.

I saw a lot of patterns for this type of cardigan. Most of all are made beginning from a granny square. But as long as you need a square to make this cardigan, you can use any stitch pattern.

This pattern is for sizes from S to XL. Is true that this type of cardigan can match multiple sizes, but I founded more easy for you give you instructions each size.

The dimensions for the final square are:

I used Katia Saigon un color Denim. Is a light weight yarn. Here you can find some yarn substitute if you don’t find this particular one.

This yarn came in 300 m (328 yd) per skein and for size S I used almost 5 skeins.

I used a 3.5 mm crochet hook (4 US)

You will also need a tapestry needle and scissors

Gauge

18 st = 10 cm (4″)

14 rows = 10 cm (4″)

The gauge is made in cross stitch pattern.

Abbreviations used in the Jolie Cardigan pattern

  • Ch – chain
  • St(s) – stitch (es)
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Dec – sc2tog (insert the hook, pull a loop up, insert hook in the next stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn trough both loops on your hook)

To begin, chain an even number of stitches, or make a foundation single crochet, also of an even number of stitches.

  • S – 150 st
  • M – 170 st
  • L – 188 st
  • XL – 206 st

Row 1 ( skip this row if you began with a foundation single crochet)

Ch 1, 1 sc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.

Row 2

Ch 2 doesn’t count as a first dc, so make 1 dc in the first st, *skip 1 st, 1 dc in the next, 1 dc in the skipped stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the row. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 3

If you started with a foundation ch, repeat row 1, if you started with foundation single crochet make 1 sc in each stitch across.

Repeat row 2 and 3 until you have in total:

  • S – 112 rows (not counting the foundation sc)
  • M – 112 rows
  • L – 118 rows
  • XL – 124 rows

The square is done.

Now fold the square in half. We will sew the edges end let the space for the sleeves.

We will sew until the arm hole:

  • S – 32 rows
  • M – 30 rows
  • L – 30 rows
  • XL – 31 rows

This is how the Jolie Cardigan will look after this step.

Sleeve

Now we will work the sleeves. We will work in rounds so joining after each row.

Insert the hook and yarn ( I didn’t start from the seam because this is in front and I didn’t want that the joining seam to be visible)

Row 1

1 sc in each stitch. Join with a slip stitch. Ch 1

Row 2

We will decrease.

[1 sc2tog in next 6 stitches ( 3 dec ), 1 sc in the next st] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 3

1 sc in each stitch across. Join with slip stitch.

Rows 4 – 20

Repeat row 3

Row 21

Work this row in cross stitch

Row 22 – 24

1 sc in each stitch.

Repeat the same pattern for the other sleeve.

Collar

Row 1

Work in round, and join with slip stitch at the end of each row. 1 row meaning the entire edge, beginning from the neck to the bottom of the Jolie Cardigan.

Insert the hook and yarn and make 1 sc in each stitch across. Join with slip stitch.

Row 2 – 10

Repeat row 1

Row 11

Work this row with cross stitch

Rows 12 – 14

1 sc in each stitch.

And done. The Jolie Cardigan is ready to wear.
