How beautiful is this craft, crochet!!! It’s amazing what beautiful things you can made just with a hook, yarn, your hands and your mind!

I started to work on this Dreamscape Tee some while ago, without having in mind something or a final result. I just played with yarn for a few rows and then this idea came: to transform what I was doing into a garment.

So, here it is! My Dreamscape Tee which came to life from “nothing”: no design idea, just some left over yarn and  huge passion for crochet!

You can Purchase the easy printable PDF version of this pattern here:

I have to tell you from the beginning: don’t let the color work intimidate you!  After all, I draw a color pattern and made a graph, but I  encourage you to use this pattern as inspiration and get your own “dreamscape” in this tee. Just play with the yarn, make a few stitches with one color, another few stitches with other color and so on to the end.

I used for my Dreamscape Tee, 5 different colors, but you can use less or more, depending on your own taste and of course your stash πŸ˜€

But let’s see what is all about:

Materials you will need

  •  Yarn
    • Category 1 ( Fingering weigh Yarn (can be use for this pattern up to category 3 weight yarn)
  • Crochet hook
    • 4 mm crochet hook (US G size)
  • You will need a yarn needle for assembling and to hide the ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers

Pattern notes

This Dreamscape Tee Pattern uses techniques like half double crochet, increase and color work. You will need to know front post and back post double crochet for the ribbed band.

Skill Level required is intermediate due to the color work, but any beginner can make it and have great final results.

The construction is super simple. We will work 2 identical panels, back and front.

To get to this trapeze shape of the panels, we will increase with 1 stitch at the beginning and 1 at the end of the row, when working on the right side, until we will get to the armpit length.

Then we will work the armholes without increasing.

The increase is made always in the second stitch if it’s at the beginning of the row and into the stitch before last one if it’s at the end of the row.

The pattern is available in 8 sizes, from Small to 5 X Large and is written in US terms

For longer sleeves you can increase also in the wrong side rows, or you can add after assembling longer cuffs.

Final measurements

The Dreamscape Tee has an oversized fit with a positive ease of approximate 14 cm around bust circumference.

Final measurements are listed below.

Neck Line a: 20 cm (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27)

Hem b: 50 cm (55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85)

Armhole c: 14 cm (15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23)

Length to armpit d: 42 cm (43, 44, 44, 45,45,46,47)

This measurements will fit:

How much yarn do you need?

For this Dreamscape Tee I used different types of fingering weight yarn. Because I was using left over yarn the exact amount of yarn you will need is not available.

For each size you will approximate need:

About the stitch pattern.

The Dreamscape Tee is worked entirely in half double crochet. For lower body ribbing we will use front post double crochet and back post double crochet.

  • Dc – double crochet
  • Fpdc – front post double crochet
  • Bpdc – back post double crochet
  • St(s) – stitch(es)
  • Inc – Increase (2 hdc in the same st)

Color Pattern

For the color pattern we will use the graph below. This graph is available also as a printable pdf. Document.

This graph is made to be used as guidance. You can follow it as it is or you can go for your own color work. This is an abstract color work, so it’s not a big issue if you will miss some stitches, or you will make more in one color, than indicated in the graph.

In the graph are represented 88 sts and 26 rows. Each row in the graph represents one row on our work and each square one stitch. Read the graph from right to left when working on the right side and from left to right when working on the wrong side.

As we are increasing on sides, the extra sts will be made in the same color as the previous one.

When changing the colors, finish the last st in the current color with the next color you want to use.

You don’t have to carry the unused color along the entire row, unless you have to change the color a few sts after. In this case make the sts over the other color strand.

In case the pattern requires to change the color a few sts before the next color is, grab the strand and change the color working the next sts over.

When working on the right side, let the strands of yarn in the back of your work. When working on the wrong side, bring them in front.

If you don’t longer need to use one color for the next few rows, cut the yarn and join it again when the pattern requires.

If don’t like the idea of counting sts, use the previous row as guidance and read on the chart only the sts you need to make extra compared with the previous row.

Here you can find a video tutorial about how to read the chart and hoe to work with more colors.

If you are making this Tee in a bigger size, then you will have to start with more sts than indicated in the graph. Expand the number of sts made in the edge color with the extra sts.

After completing the first 26 rows, you finished the color pattern and you will have to repeat rows 1 to 26 until you will complete the back panel.

For the next color pattern section, the next 26 rows,  you will have to repeat rows 1 to 26, but add 13 more sts at the number of sts on edges.

Continue increasing on the right side and following the color chart until you wil get the desired length to the armpit or until you have in total:

  • S – 54 rows
  • M – 60 rows
  • L – 62 rows
  • XL – 62 rows
  • 2XL – 64 rows
  • 3XL – 64 rows
  • 4XL – 64 rows
  • 5XL – 64 rows

After finishing increasing, you will have in total:

  • S – 142 sts
  • M – 158 sts
  • L – 170 sts
  • XL – 178 sts
  • 2XL – 189 sts
  • 3XL – 197 sts
  • 4XL – 208 sts
  • 5XL – 216 sts

Next, you will have to continue with the armhole section. We won’t increase anymore on sides. Keep following the color pattern graph. For the armhole we will work in total:

  • S – 20 rows
  • M – 21 rows
  • L 24 rows
  • XL – 25 rows
  • 2XL – 27 rows
  • 3XL – 28 rows
  • 4XL – 31 rows
  • 5 XL – 32 rows

After completing the armhole section, the back panel is done and you will have to repeat the same pattern for the front panel.

Assembling

Before starting assembling the 2 pieces together, wave in all end first. It will be easier to do that while the pieces are not joined together.

Next, lay the pieces one over the other and use 2 stitch markers to mark the neck line:

Count from one side 53 (60, 65, 67, 73, 76, 80, 84) sts and put a stitch marker in the last counted st. Let for the neck line 36 (38, 40, 44, 44, 46, 48, 48) sts and put a st marker in the next one.

Sew the pieces together following the diagram below:

To finish

Wave in the remained ends, in case you have some from sewing and block to measurements.

In case you need some help, here you can find a video tutorial which explains how to work with colors and how to read the chart.
