For a long time I wanted to make this kind of jacket to my daughter, but every time I had something else scheduled. This time I made it. I had some left over yarn from the Fancy sweater and I said that is perfect for a baby girl jacket like this. So here I am with full instructions and video tutorial.

Repeat from * to the end of the row.

We will repeat making the buttons holes at every 6 rows, 3 times.

Row 3

For all sizes

1 hdc in each stitch to the first corner, 1 inc in the ch 1 space and repeat this section to the end of the row.

Repeat row 3 and (don’t forget at every 6 rows rows for 3 times repeat row 2 to make the buttons holes), until you have in total;

  • for 1 year 14 rows;
  • for 2 years 16 rows;
  • for 3 years 17 rows;
  • for 4 years 18 rows;
  • for 5 years 19 rows;

We just finished the first part of the jacket and is time to let the sleeve holes apart and work just the skirt. On the next row we will also make the middle back fold.

baby girl jacket part 1

Before start the next row, count the stitches of the back side and mark the middle stitch, here is where we will make the mid back fold.

Row 15 ( 17, 18, 19, 20)

1 hdc in each stitch until the first corner, 1 hdc in the ch 1 space, skip the sts until the next corner ( the sleeve sts), 1 hdc in the ch 1 space. Continue with 1 hdc in each stitch until the marked stitch for the mid back fold. In the marked stitch make 1 hdc. For the mid back fold we will make a chain.

  • For 1 year ch 35
  • For 2 and 3 years ch 40
  • For 4 and 5 years ch 45.

Continue with 1 hdc in each stitch until the next corner, 1 hdc in the ch 1 space, skip the sts until the next corner, 1 hdc in the ch 1 space, 1 hdc in each st to the end of the row. Ch 2 and turn.

Row 16 ( 18, 19, 20, 21)

1 hdc in each stitch including the sts of the mid back fold. Ch 2 and turn.

Rows 17 – 23 ( 19 – 25, 20 – 28, 21 – 30, 22 – 32)

Repeat row 16 ( 18 19, 20, 21)

Fasten up.

Sleeve

Row 1

For all sizes

Insert the hook in the first stitch at the armpit and make 1 hdc in each st across. You can now work in rounds and make a slip stitch with the first hdc, or ch 2 and turn and sew the sleeve after finishing it.

If you choose to work in rounds, work on the right side and on the wrong side to keep the same look of the stitch.

Rows 2 – 27( 2 – 29, 2 – 32, 2- 34, 2 – 36)

Repeat row 1

Fasten up.

We made 4 extra rows on the sleeve, because the sleeve will be bent at the edge.

Repeat the same with the other sleeve.

Now let’s sew the mid back fold of the baby girl jacket.

Fold the extra stitches like in picture above ( the picture is with only the chain but you will have to follow the same shape) and sew it on the jacket.

Collar

For all sizes

Row1

Put the jacket with the exterior outside. Skip the first 6 sts, 1 hdc in each st until you have 6 sts left. Ch 2 and turn.

Row 2

2 hdc in the first st, 1 hdc in each st until the last one, 2 hdc in the last st.

Row 3

Repeat row 2

Row 4

1 hdc in each stitch across.

Rows 5 – 6 ( or more if you want a higher collar), Repeat row 4.

Now we finished the jacket and is time to accessorize it.

First: Make 1 row in sc as an edge all over the jacket, including collar and sleeves.

Second: Make 1 ch row between the last row and the edge in sc. Proceed the same as you are making a chain only that you pull the yarn trough the stitches of the jacket and then trough the loop on your hook. This chain row make it with a contrasting colour yarn. On the collar and sleeves, make this  row on the wrong side, because this parts are bent.

Third: Make a bow with the same contrasting colour and sew it at the top of the mid back fold. I made the bow in sc, beginning with 8 sts and I made 10 rows. Then I made a small piece with 4 sts just to tie the bow at the middle.

Fourth: Sew the buttons and the jacket is done.
